I saw a TV show (Tyra Banks maybe?) about online dating, and how you can put your best face (and personality) forward when it comes to making a profile that attracts (hopefully the type of people you want). This WSJ article is interesting though: apparently people are borrowing from other profiles, calling them 'cut-and-paste personas'.
I've seen this phenomenon happen via Facebook, as friends and friends of friends see something witty, be it a movie, quote, or saying, and reappropriate it as their own. It's understandable, as people, whether it's via profiles or avatars, want to project a certian persona, even if it isn't always the one they actually are!
